Treats and Love for this holiday season

Updated: Nov 7, 2022

The holiday season is approaching which means holiday shopping, preparing decorations, cooking, and spending quality time with whom you love– like your pet! However, being that pets have different needs that owners need to cater to, not all meals may be accessible to them. So how can we include our dogs in this year’s feast? In this blog, we’ll give a few tips!

Pet Health

Before we get into celebrating with our dogs, let's discuss pet health. Unfortunately, there are many foods that pose a threat to dogs, which can be some of the most popular holiday foods such as turkey (if eaten as typically prepared) and grapes. Even treats like pies and chocolates. Now, dogs can eat turkey meat. In fact, turkey is an amazing source of lean protein for them. However, it must be prepared as such; no seasoning, no skin, and no bones. Eating bones can damage your pet’s digestive tract, and the seasoning and skin the turkey is typically prepared with can cause your dog to develop diarrhea, dehydration, and pancreatitis. To avoid poison risks, it is recommended to hide your trash from pets, keep the feast on the table, and regardless of how much they whine, do not feed them the chocolate pie. Instead, make them their own Thanksgiving feast!

Sweet Potatoes

Sweet potatoes are a great source of fiber, vitamin b6, and would be a great snack for your pet.

Yogurt

Your furry friends deserve a treat once in a while. So feed them yogurt instead! Plain non-fat yogurt can provide calcium and probiotic benefits for your dog.
